Guardian angels are the most accepted form of angelic ministry in the world. I believe that everyone has at least one guardian angel. Nearly every denomination has faith for and believes in guardian angels. This is a well accepted doctrine in the Body of Christ today, and even in the world.
Jesus talked about guardian angels in Matthew 18. He called a little child to Himself, and then He set the child in the midst of the disciples. He said, “Assuredly, I say to you [I tell you the truth], unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means [not] enter in to the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me” (Matthew 18:3).
Later on He taught about guardian angels when He said this: “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones [children], for I say to you [tell you the truth] that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven” (v. 10). Jesus teaches us that little children have angels that are assigned to them. These angels (perhaps guardian angels) are released to stand before the Father on behalf of the child.
So my question for you is this; just because you grow up to be adults, does that mean you lose your angel which God has assigned to you as a child. An angel who always beholds the face of our Father who is in heaven? The answer is no. We all have at least one guardian angel, in my opinion. I also believe that it is possible that some people have numerous angels assigned to them on this side of eternity.
A Big Kiss from Heaven
In 2007 Kathy and I were in Tanzania conducting crusades in seven cities in the Lakes District near Lake Victoria. We saw God do a lot of amazing miracles and were given the grace to lead an estimated 19,000 precious people to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior in those seven weeks. I give God all the glory for those things! During that time there was a lot of warfare, so Kathy gave herself to intercession on a daily basis. I thank God for that!
One day I had been in a meeting with pastors in the city, and I came back to hotel. It was a hot day, about 100 degrees. There on the stoop of the steps that led to our little room I saw Kathy. She looked so beautiful! She was wearing a white outfit, and in the hot African sun she seemed to glow. I thought to myself, “She looks so beautiful! When I get over there I’m going to give her a big hug and a big kiss and I’m going to tell her how much I love her.” But I also thought it was a bit unusual that she was outside in the hot African sun because Kathy likes to protect herself from the sunshine and it is quite intense in Africa.
I waved at her and smiled and she waved and smiled back and gave me the biggest beautiful smile that I’d seen her give me in a long time. I couldn’t wait to get to her so I could hug her and kiss her and just tell her how much I love her and appreciate her. I walked around a plant to get to the other side of the stoop. But when I got there, there was no Kathy! She was gone! One instant she was there and the next instant she was gone! It seemed that she had vanished in plain sight! There seemed to be a lingering sense of holiness linger in the air around the steps. Perhaps the Lord was protecting my toes?
I quickly bounded up the stairs and tried to open the door to our little room, but it was locked. So I fumbled with the key, I unlatched the door, I walked in, and I said, “Honey, how did you get in here so fast?” She was lying on the bed and I knew she was praying. When I looked at her, I realized she was wearing khaki pants; she didn’t have on a white outfit. At that moment it dawned on me that I had seen Kathy’s guardian angel. She said, “What are you talking about?” I said, “Honey, I just saw your guardian angel.” Then I told her the testimony.
My friends, I want you to know something. God’s angels perform His word. I knew Kathy had been praying for our protection. As we decree God’s word over our life, we empower God’s angels to move and work on our behalf. God’s angels often work to protect us and guard us from harm or danger. As we decree God’s word over our life, we empower God’s angels to minister for us. At times God’s angels minister for us by guarding us and protecting us.
This is the dynamic that we see outlined in Psalm 91:11. God will give His angels charge over us. God has angels He wants to empower through your words and through your prayers!
Psalm 91; 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” 3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
