Who is “Your Healer”?

Jesus performed a lot of miracles, but just 40 or so are recorded in the Gospels. Some people believe that Jesus preformed (only) 40 miracles, but I believe that the number of miracles that Jesus wrought were considerably more based on John 21:25. “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written”. Amen.

If the world itself could not contain all of the Lord’s miracles, well then there were a tremendous number of miracles and miraculous deeds that Jesus worked. It should be noted that not all the miracles that Jesus worked were “healing miracles”. It is also important to note that not of the Lord’s healing miracles were instantaneous. Some of the Lord’s miracles manifested over the course of time. I call these “progressive healing miracles”. We will look at several types of miracles later in this article.

Of course, any miracles wrought today that are worked or performed by (God’s people) are actually still the work of Jesus Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. (Hebrews 13:8). God still works miracles today for those who can believe. Can you believe?

Here is a great example of a “progressive healing miracle”. We find this in the Gospel of John again. Look at these passages in John 8:22-25; Then He (Jesus) came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him and begged Him to touch him.  So, He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.  And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.” (This blind man was not immediately healed. He began to see but not clearly).

Look at what Jesus does for him in verse 25).  Then He (Jesus) put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. From this biblical example we can learn that at times we need to pray more than one time. There was the time that I prayed for a man in Malawi. His name was Leonard, and he did not have a left eyeball. No eye, so he was blind in the left side. In the Name of the Lord Leonard grew a new eyeball over the course of seven days. He reported that he could see well from his new eye. (This miracle has been published in several books to date. In this example of a modern-day creative miracle. Leonard received prayer more than one time over the course of seven days.

The Five Step Model for Ministering Healing Prayer

Some folks are of the “word of faith” persuasion (which I truly love). It has been taught by some of the “word of faith” peeps that when a minister prays for you for a miracle or a healing one time that the healing of miracle is done. But looking at the ministry of Jesus we see that even He prayed for some more than once.  The “word of faith” peeps established this concept of a person’s faith being responsible for their receiving a healing or miracle from the healing prayer. But I do not believe that scripture is affirming to this idea or doctrine. If you need a miracle or healing keep on seeking, keep on asking and keep on knocking (Matthew 7:7). If you need to get prayer more than once. Just do it! Get prayer and get baptized more than once, or until your healing or miracle is made manifest on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:6-13).

Yes, at times faith plays an important role in the manifestation of healing and miracles (but not in every instance). Who cares if you receive your miracle instantly or if it takes several days. If your blind eyes open after some time you still receive a progressive healing miracle. I have witnessed blind Muslims healed and their blind eyes open from prayer and I am certain that they did not have “any faith” for Jesus to heal them at all.

The Big C

Once I prayed for a person fighting cancer. They were not immediately healed by that single prayer. A bit later they came to one of our meetings in Moravian Falls. I asked them about the doctor’s prognosis of the big C. They still were battling the cancer. I asked them if I could pray for them again based upon John 8. They told me that I had already prayed once and that they did not have “enough faith” to receive their healing. After talking to them about this (interviewing them according to the John Wimber 5 step model). They told me that another minister has told them that he would only pray for the healing of their cancer one time, then it was up to their faith for  their healing or miracle to manifest.

Before you take your time to email, yes, we have seen numerous people healed of the big C (cancer). In most instances those miracles manifested over a period of time and after multiple prayers. Although, some people were healed instantly (we always encourage people have their doctor confirm their miracle). Any real miracle will stand up to medical confirmation. However, it is also necessary to be on guard against negative retorts from the doctors’ whether they have a badge or not.

Here is a very brief outline of John Wimber’s (the founder of the Vineyard denomination) five step healing model. Step one is the interview, step two is the diagnosis, step three is the selection of the correct healing prayer, step four is the prayer engagement (interacting with the person who is receiving prayer to see there is a manifestation of healing), step five is the post prayer direction and instructions. You can find more information about John Wimber’s five step prayer method by simply googling it! Try Wimber’s five step model as it is very effective most of the time. However, the five step prayer model is more suited to releasing healings rather than miracles it would seem.

Anointed Not Disappointed

Well, I always told people that they needed to be “anointed not disappointed”. You see there are various “gifts of miracles”. Some people have the gift of miracles for healing the deaf, or the working of miracles for healing bad backs (go figure). Yes, and even some are anointed and given the grace gift by the Holy Spirit to heal the big C, cancer through the laying on of hands or prayer (the healing word). We have seen people healed in other nations as we have just spoken the healing word over people or members of their families.

So, it may not be that the person who is receiving the prayer for healing or a miracles faith is lacking. It may just be that the minister is lazy and has not done their homework. The minister just may not be anointed for the healing of that particular issue or illness. Perhaps they have not sought the Lord with prayer and fasting. This kind of prayer is what I call “resting prayer or waiting prayer”. Remember even Jesus taught that some miracles and deliverances come but by prayer and fasting (Mark 9;28-29).

PUSH

Yes, cancer can be demonic at times. Cancer is mostly demonic about 97 or so percent of the time. A minister will need the anointing of the Holy Spirit and faith in God’s healing power for this kind of healing miracle. To receive a healing of cancer or any other miracle of healing does not just dependent on the person receiving the prayers faith. Sometimes you do not need faith to receive a miracle.

So, the bottom line is to PUSH God around sometimes. That is an acronym for Pray. Until. Something. Happens. Smith Wigglesworth, a lay minister from the 1940s and 50’s era was known to hold a dead person’s corpse and pray for over 24 hours until they were raised from the dead and life came back into the corpse. I do not believe that dead people can have faith for their miracle. So, it must be the anointing or the faith of the person who is praying for them to be healed of death or raised from the dead?

By the way, raising the dead is a type of the gift of miracles. The Apostle Peter received this gift by observing Jesus work this miracle in (Mark 5, Luke 8) and Peter raised the dead in the very same way in (Acts 9:39-41). Both miracles were more than coincidence. Jesus was training Peter and Peter was paying attention. Peter received an impartation for this gift of miracles (by proximity) in the events described in Mark 5 and Luke 8.

Sovereign and Supernatural Miracles and Healings

In our modern societies today, people have many healers. I have traveled around the world extensively and I know that in many less developed nations people believe in sovereign and supernatural miracles. (Not all of these miracles come from the Lord Jesus Kingdom). In some nations (in America too) some people hunt for witch doctors or shamans seeking their healing or miracle.

I do know and have witnessed the dead being raised in the Lord’s Name and in the power of the Spirit of God. God still raises the dead today. Again, raising the dead is a type of the gift of miracles. In fact, if you are reading this and you are a Christian, your whole faith in God is based upon the fact that God can raise the dead. Of course, Jesus Christ was one of the first raised from the dead. We need to add Lazarus (John 11:43) to this category. And I assume that you too hope to be raised from the dead when you expire and put off your earth suite? (Die).

Lots of Healers

Today (12-27-2022) I was walking through the grocery store. (Thank God there was an abundance of food and edibles and no shortages). As I was looking at baking goods, I saw a healer walking up the aisle. It was a dog. It was a blue heeler. Of course, it is not normal to see a heeler in the grocery store, (but then again this is Idaho). So, go figure. When I saw the heeler, the Lord spoke to me and reminded me to finish this article that I had started the week before the Christ mas holiday. So here we go again. (Smile).

There are lots of healers on the earth today. Who is your healer? I once worked for a young man who had just graduated from college and became a medical doctor. He was an MD. He told me that he was a healer. On another occasion I had a very nice man came to one of our meetings in Moravian Falls and “demanded” to pray for the sick. I asked him why and I was told by him that “he was a healer”. We were a little put off because none of us knew him, but he said that he was a YouTube “star” or something like that. The fellow also seemed a bit miffed about our refusal to allow him to pray for the sick in the meeting. (By the way, we did not allow people who we were not in relationship with to pray for those folks who attended at our meetings, still don’t). So sorry about that if that guy (the healer/YouTube star) reads this. He may have well been a healer, but you know, protocol!

Protocol

So, I am not too sure that protocol in the church is a good thing or a bad thing. I once prayed for a woman at a large church in Pasadena, California and she was healed. I remember that as being about 2002. She was a paralytic and had been in a wheelchair for about eight years. But in the Name of Jesus, she rose and began to weep and walk. Her name was Salina, and her life was transformed according to her testimony which we received later.  I was very excited to see that there is still power in the name of Jesus (Acts 3:6-8). However, I was immediately told to cease and desist from praying for anyone. “But” I shuddered, “she was healed, she is walking”. That did not matter as I did not have a badge, and they did not know me (Nor did I have a popular YouTube channel).

Once in Toronto Canada at another large Pentecostal church I prayed for a deaf person, and they were healed. Once again, I was told to “cease and desist in praying for anyone”. You see, I did not have a badge at all. No badge. I did not have a blue dot that allowed me to pray for males and I did not have a pink dot that allowed me to pray for females. In fact, I did not even have a ministry team badge. One of the elders referred to folks like me as “loose cannons”.  It is interesting that about two years later I saw an estimated seventy-two deaf healed in that same city and same ministry. (Oh, by the way, I had a badge with pretty little colored dots on it by then).

I guess that I was a lot like the characters in the 1948 movie “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre”. One of the antagonists made this very famous statement; “Badges, I don have to show you no badges. We ain’t got no stinkin’ badges” (kind of like our ministry in Moravian Falls). Well, I guess in some ministries today that Jesus would not be able to pray because He would not have no stinkin’ badges or would be considered a “loose cannon”. But alas I digress!

More on Heelers and Blood quantum

Recently I saw an ad in the classified ads in the newspaper advertising selling heelers. That got my attention! You see a Heeler is a type of cattle herding dog and there are blue Heelers, red Heelers, and even Queensland Heelers. The heeler I saw in the market was a blue heeler. Again, these are all a type of dog from down under and not a real healer. I do not think that Heelers have badges, but they do have certificates of their blood lines or pedigree.

On a side note, Native Americans are the only humans in the world that are classified or categorized by their pedigree or their blood lines or blood type by the United States government. You can just google “blood quantum” to learn about this policy of the American Government. (This is a real Snapple fact). I am a native American of Cherokee heritage, and my blood quantum is 25% Cherokee. So, I can write those last few sentences and be politically correct like a Commander in Washington, D.C. As of today, I have not sought to join the Cherokee tribe (though) I could according to blood quantum theory. But I have been adopted into the Navajo tribe in Deer Creek, New Mexico and I am grateful for that.

So, I suppose you could say that not all healers are human beings! The opposite is also true, that not all humans are healers. However, God created humans in His image and the human body has incredible healing abilities. So many times, human doctors are only working with the Spirit of God (unknowingly) and the God given ability of the human body to heal itself (even though they may believe that they are healers they are not). Only God is the true Healer.

Desperation and Faith

It is true that when a person gets desperate, they will go to any means to seek healing. Some people may go to witch doctors or shamans. Peeps in the church may seek out a Pentecostal healing evangelist seeking their miracle or healing.  (There is a significant difference in those last three groups.)

I would like to use myself as an example. In 2017 I “snapped” my back and was in considerable back pain for years (I still battle these symptoms today). After being in pain for several months I sought to go to a doctor seeking their help from the pain I was experiencing twenty-four hours a day. (I sought a human healer to alleviate the pain in my back).  Allow me to say that constant or chronic pain will mess with your spirit and soul over long periods of time. On a side note, at times pain can be caused by demonic forces too.

I was desperate to sleep through the night and to be “pain free”. My doctor, who is a wonderful person and a D.O. suggested that I have an MRI of my spine. So, I did (I was desperate). Later the MRI (Magnetic resonance image – MRI) was “read” by another doctor who was trained in MRI and imaging. The MRI showed (according to his words) that I suffered from Degenerative Disc Disease (a word curse). A second MRI showed several tumors on my spine (another word curse). By the way the D. O. did not have a badge in his office but was required to wear a badge at the local hospital. The doctor who read the MRI had a big badge on, but neither of them were healers.

I believed the doctors reports because the intense pain in my back was very real. (Words have power). This chronic back pain lasted for about five years, and I tried several remedies for the back pain. I had faith, but my back was really a hot mess. I was pretty much in constant pain (doctors with badges labeled this “chronic pain”). From this experience I discovered that some Pentecostal Christians really have a dim or poor view of people who seek help from the medical profession, especially those peeps who are Pentecostal ministers. Perhaps I am a little too insensitive concerning my view of this dynamic of judging people who are sick and desperate for relief?

Today, I have much more sympathy for people who look to doctors (instead of God) for a healer. I have also learned that doctors (for the most part) really want to help a person to heal. Most of them just do not factor spiritual elements into their equations for the healing of diseases. Rather they depend upon their knowledge and what scientists (for better or worse) have published in medical journals. Of course, I am painting with a very “broad brush” here. Doctors are good peeps for the most part. Although, many could use a little more patience concerning their bedside manner. It should be said that after seeing dozens of complaining folks each day it would be easy to become sharp, gruff, and a grinch (like me).

Faith is a Supernatural Substance

Finally, my wonderful wife, Kathy said something about “just believing” the Lord Jesus for my healing. I think those of us in the Body of Christ, or the church call this “faith”. Well, I always thought that I had the “gift of faith” that is found in 1Cornthians 12:9. Over the years I have seen hundreds upon hundreds of folks healed and delivered from all manner of infirmities. So, what about my back? What about me Lord? Hello! This is a common dynamic in the healing ministry and always has been.

Those of you who know me will know that I am a “word man” and I believe in speaking God’s anointed word and Scriptures over my life and circumstances. So, I began to speak out healing scriptures over my back. So, I began to plead the Blood of Jesus over the back pain I was experiencing (last resort). I began to decree healing scriptures over my back and my body (a real option). However, I also continued to see the D.O. who was really trying to help me. I pleaded the blood of Jesus over my back to no avail! I was still dealing with “chronic” back pain.

Well, it took several years until I saw a manner of breakthrough for my back. Hebrews 4:2 states this amazing fact; For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. Sometimes we just need to add faith to the word. This is true even when we feel that our faith is being tried or even if we feel that our faith is insufficient or small. I still have issues with my back, but I do not see any D.O.’s or any other doctors as of this writing. (My back feels pretty good tonight though). I am depending upon the real healer, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

An Indisputable Fact

Jesus is the bonified healer.  And in my way of thinking that is an indisputable fact. Why?  I have witnessed literally hundreds and hundreds of miracles and healings around the earth. (Many backs have been healed in our meetings, including some creative miracles in spines). In His sovereignty He (the Lord) gave gifts to men (whether they have any stinkin’ badges or dots or not). The anointing of the Holy Spirit is still released in the form on the gift(s) of miracles or the gift(s) of healing. What is more amazing and mind blowing is that the Lord uses imperfect but willing people to release these gifts of miracles and healings.

I have learned over the years that the Lord Jesus’s ministry is a blueprint or an outline for us today (if we can believe it and learn to receive it). However, all we can do is to be obedient and pray for a person. In the end it is God who heals. Learn to leave it at that, even if you are hoping for a healing or miracle for yourself. There are a lot of different miracles that the real healer releases and released. So, allow me to outline several types of miracles that you can have faith for today based on the miracles recorded in the Bible. You will find these in part of the article “Who’s Your Healer – Part Two”. These miracles are (just) the miracles done in the ministry of Jesus and the bible records a lot more miracles in the scriptures.
